Dining

The Golden Guest House has a variety of restaurants within walking distance. Here are a few of my favorites:

Abejas
Abejas is the most innovative (and pricey) restaurant in the neighborhood. The menu changes often, but the experience is always high-end.  Follow that with live theater at the Miners Alley Playhouse across the street for Golden’s most upscale evening possible.

Cafe 13
Cafe 13 has mediocre breakfast food and coffees. Cozy seating areas are popular for groups looking for some privacy or a place to work. The shady outdoor seating is hard to beat during hot summer months.

D'Deli
D’Deli is for serious sandwich snobs. Great value and an outdoor patio in the middle of the action on Washington.

Indulge Bistro
Indulge has a fantastic wine list and full bar. It’s on the more expensive side, but that’s easy to overlook once you’re slurping mussels on their patio at 13th/Washington—perfect spot for people watching.

Miners Saloon
Miners Saloon is across the street from The Golden Guest House. They have a short, but excellent menu that changes seasonally, and a creative collection of specialty cocktails to enjoy on their patio.
My favorite food item: spring turkey sandwich
Favorite drink: Taking a nap in the back of an uber

Pangea
Pangea is the closest and best coffee shop in the neighborhood—so close we can often smell them roasting beans. Locals like it because it’s open at 6:00 am and offers lots of space to work. The pastries are excellent.

Sassafras
Best Bloody Mary in town. Locals can’t stop talking about Sassafras. Their food will make you want to cry. Conveniently located at 11th / Washington —less than 2 blocks east of The Golden Guest House. You’ll find a menu in the kitchen drawer to preview before you go.

 Sherpa House
The Sherpa House is not just a Himalayan restaurant—it’s a cultural experience.  Their property is as much a work of art, as their food.  I recommend the lunch buffet and a lazy lounge around their back patio. Don’t miss it.

 Thai Gold
The Thai Gold patio is great on a warm summer night. My favorite: drunken noodles.

 Windy Saddle
Windy Saddle is 100 yards from The Golden Guest House (once you find their back door next to Miners Saloon). Their front door is directly below the “Welcome to Golden” sign on Washington Street. They’ve got fantastic breakfast burritos, and decent coffee drinks. I recommend the toasted Thunderbird sandwich for lunch. Great play space for kids under 6 in the back.

 Woody's
Pizza by the slice, and serious local atmosphere available at Woody’s Woodfired Pizza. None of my other recommended restaurants were here 15 years ago, but this one has always been busting at the seams with Mines students and families. Another great patio.

Golden Moon Speakeasy
There are mixed reviews about the service at this place, but the trendy vibe, quality cocktails, and close proximity to the Golden Guest House make it worth trying. Live music in the evenings can make the small space a little tight, but slouching around just outside their patio around sunset in the summer is hard to beat.

Trailhead Taphouse
The Trailhead Taphouse is worth a visit if you like pizza, beer, and sports on the television. This is not the best food in town but they make a great po’ boy sandwich, and the people watching is excellent from their 12th/Miner’s Alley patio.

Colorado+49
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ The best restaurant in town just opened next to The Golden Guest House. They brew their own cider 🍺 and the food is outstanding. Truffle fries, mussels, quality burgers 🍔 and a stellar location on the corner of 11th/Arapahoe.
